Case Study: Designing the Logo for Shrewsbury Restaurant Week
This project was undertaken by Tara, Creative Media Specialist at Claremont Design, and the author of this case study.
Overview:
For Shrewsbury Restaurant Week, we were tasked with designing a logo that captured the town’s rich culinary diversity and welcoming atmosphere. The logo needed to complement the stunning artwork of the talented Luke Crump while highlighting the charm of Shrewsbury and the excitement of exploring its dining scene.
This project extended beyond logo design into a comprehensive branding effort, including digital and print materials that elevated the event’s visibility and provided practical tools for participating eateries to engage with their audiences.
The Design Process:
To ensure the logo resonated with both locals and visitors, I developed three distinct design concepts. Shrewsbury BID, the organisation leading the project, presented these options to a subsidiary group composed of restaurant and eatery owners from Shrewsbury. The group voted on their preferred design, which ultimately became the face of Shrewsbury Restaurant Week.
Extended Project Scope
Once the logo was finalised, I was also tasked with creating additional event materials:
Interactive Digital Poster: This poster featured the names of all participating restaurants. I designed it to be easily editable, allowing the client to make changes independently as needed.
Printed Stamp Card: Designed for event-goers to collect stamps as they visited different venues. The card included a QR code for easy access to event information and ample space for participants to collect their stamps.
Window Stickers: Custom stickers featuring the event logo were provided to participating restaurants and eateries, making it clear to customers which venues were part of the event.
Social Media Graphic Templates: Customisable templates for restaurant and eatery owners to use on their social media platforms. These graphics made it easy for them to promote their involvement in the event and highlight special offers or featured dishes.
Outcome:
Seeing the logo displayed in windows across Shrewsbury was a true honour. The digital and print materials enhanced the event's visibility and encouraged greater participation, successfully uniting the town’s culinary community. This project showcased how thoughtful design and community collaboration in creating a successful and memorable local event.
